ASCO 2026 | Talquetamab in patients with R/R myeloma & renal impairment: a retrospective cohort study

In this video, Shahzad Raza, MD, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, briefly discusses a retrospective cohort study evaluating the use of talquetamab in patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) multiple myeloma (MM) and renal impairment. Dr Raza highlights that the analysis found similar outcomes in patients with end-stage renal disease or on hemodialysis compared to those without renal function issues, suggesting that talquetamab can be safely used in this population. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.

You know that talquetamab is one of our wonderful drugs that we have been using it for multiple myeloma. Now, in the original studies, we excluded these patients who are on dialysis, end-stage renal disease, they have a poor outcome or maybe they were just not in the study because we felt that they’re not the right population. So this is the great retrospective cohort we conducted the study at the Cleveland Clinic where we included all these patients who are on hemodialysis or they have poor kidney function and compare them with the regular cohort who have no renal function issues...

So this is the great retrospective cohort we conducted the study at the Cleveland Clinic where we included all these patients who are on hemodialysis or they have poor kidney function and compare them with the regular cohort who have no renal function issues. So when we try to subset our analysis to patients who have end-stage renal disease, our outcomes are not different, so it does tell us that in the real-world setting, that talquetamab and the agents like that, that can be used in patients who have end-stage renal disease or on dialysis, it’s in our cohort it turned out to be pretty safe.
