Aditi Shastri, MD, Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY, presents the findings of a study which aimed to investigate patterns of exposure to outdoor air pollution in a large, urban, ethnically diverse cohort of patients with multiple myeloma (MM). In this cohort, many patients were exposed to particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 2.5 microns (PM2.5) in a quantity exceeding the EPA and WHO safe standards, and an inverse association was observed between overall survival (OS) of patients and the number of years of PM2.5 exposure. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
