ASCAT 2023 | Addressing infertility risks in patients with sickle cell disease

Lydia Pecker, MD, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, outlines the reasons fertility may be affected in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD), such as differences in age at menarche and menopause which give female patients a narrower fertile window. Dr Pecker emphasizes the importance of talking to SCD patients about their family plans in order to allow any disease-related infertility risks to be addressed. This interview was recorded at the 18th Annual Scientific Conference on Sickle Cell and Thalassemia (ASCAT) 2023, held in London, UK.
