EHA 2021 | Is the collection of backup stem cells necessary?

Surbhi Sidana, MD, Stanford University, Stanford, CA, discusses the collection and use of backup stem cells for stem cell boost and second transplant in patients with multiple myeloma. Dr Sidana reports that backup stem cells are used in less than 10% of patients and considers whether the collection of backup stem cells is necessary. Dr Sidana also comments on the benefits of having back up stem cells for patients undergoing chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. This interview took place at the virtual European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress 2021.
