COMy 2021 | Blocking the transition to myeloma from precursor phases

Understanding the complexity of the different stages of mutliple myeloma development using next generation sequencing has allowed for possible earlier interventions in clinic. Gareth Morgan, MD, PhD, FRCP, FRCPath, NYU Langone Orthopedic Center, New York, NY, talks on the importance of treating patients in early disease stages according to their genetics, to prevent progression to myeloma. Recent evidence has identified patient subsets with precursor disease that have a high likelihood of progression to myeloma. Prof. Morgan highlights the benefits to treating these patients early and why immune-based strategies are appropriate in this setting. This interview took place during the 7th World Congress on Controversies in Multiple Myeloma (COMy), 2021.
