Multiple myeloma (MM) can be diagnosed early if caught via a series of pre-disease indicators. Here, Robert Kyle, MD, of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, describes the different stages of MM progression, beginning with early indicators from monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) to smoldering MM. Prof. Kyle particularly emphasizes that patients do not often present certain symptoms associated with MM in these stages, making diagnosis more difficult, but are effective when caught before disease progression to true MM. This interview took place at the 1st European Myeloma Network (EMN) Meeting 2018, in Turin, Italy.
