IMS 2023 | Session highlights and overview: exploring the cellular origins of multiple myeloma

In this discussion, Marta Chesi, PhD, Mayo Clinic, Phoenix, AZ, and Leif Bergsagel, MD, Mayo Clinic, Phoenix, AZ, give an overview of an interesting session held at this year’s meeting which focused on the cellular origins of multiple myeloma and ongoing research in this space. First, Dr Chesi comments on the importance of investigating the origins of this disease and how this can help researchers and clinicians better understand relapse. Following this, Dr Bergsagel summarizes three abstracts that were presented during the session, and further shares insights into the value of this research. To conclude, Dr Chesi discusses her research using murine models exploring plasticity in myeloma cells, and concludes by discussing the clinical implications of this work. This interview took place at the 20th International Myeloma Society (IMS) Annual Meeting, held in Athens, Greece.
