CAR-T Meeting 2022 | EBMT Trainee Committee & Young EHA Ambassadors: educating trainees about CAR-T

Claire Horgan, Heart of England NHS Trust, Birmingham, UK, and Nico Gagelmann, MD, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany, summarize the aims and topics discussed at the EBMT Trainee Committee & Young EHA Ambassadors session, highlighting important areas of research in chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy. The session started with a presentation on the basic science, history and evolution of CAR-T therapy, as well as applications of CAR-Ts beyond hematological malignancies by Dr Hudecek. Dr Sureda then gave a talk on real-world data on CAR-T therapy and finally, Dr Di Blasi spoke on the management of CAR-T related toxicities such as cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). Moving forward, Dr Gagelmann emphasizes the importance of educating trainees about the clinical management of patients treated with CAR-T therapy, as well as better understanding why most patients relapse after CAR-T therapy. This interview took place at the EBMT-EHA 4th European CAR T-cell Meeting which was held virtually in 2022.
