Florent Malard, MD, PhD, Saint Antoine Hospital, Paris, France, provides updates on the role of the microbiota in graft versus host disease (GvHD) pathophysiology. Dr Malard highlights the contribution of fungi and viruses in transplant survival rates; presence of the fungus Candida albicans is associated with inferior survival rates in patients undergoing transplant.
