ASH 2022 | Processes leading to the development of hyperdiploidy in multiple myeloma

Mehmet Samur, PhD, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, comments on the results of a study investigating the somatic changes occurring prior to the development of hyperdiploidy in patients with multiple myeloma. Overall, the study showed that one quarter of clonal mutations accumulated before the development of hyperdiploidy. The study also reported that there were fewer mutations accumulated after the development of hyperdiploidy, and identified activation of APOBEC and DNA damage processes in the post-hyperdiploid stage. This interview took place at the 64th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition congress in New Orleans, LA.
