The internet now enables patients with rare malignancies, such as myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), to access information to increase their understanding of their disease, as well as communicate with support and advocacy systems, without physical limitations. Naveen Pemmaraju, MD, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses the results of an online questionnaire assessing MPN patient’s knowledge of their disease – data which could be used to facilitate improved access to specific informational resources. Excitingly, the survery has has almost 1,000 participants thus far. Dr Pemmaraju also discusses the growth of the MPN community on digital social channels, such as Twitter.
