Hanny Al-Samkari, MD, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, describes the current challenges in platelet autoantibody testing in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Currently, there is no gold standard diagnostic test for ITP, with platelet autoantibody testing having low sensitivity due to difficulties separating a positive signal from background noise. New techniques have emerged to improve the efficacy of this testing and provide a potential use in the prognosis of ITP. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
