IMS 2026 | Supplement use in MGUS, smoldering myeloma, and multiple myeloma: findings from a patient survey

Urvi Shah, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, NY, discusses findings from a patient survey on supplement uptake in patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), smoldering myeloma, and multiple myeloma. The survey focused on omega-3, vitamin D, probiotics, and curcumin, and showed increased use, particularly of curcumin and omega-3, following diagnosis in patients with MGUS and smoldering myeloma. Dr Shah explains that vitamin D supplementation likely has the strongest supporting evidence, but around a third of patients are unaware of their vitamin D levels, and no randomized trials have been conducted. This interview took place at the 23rd International Myeloma Society (IMS) Annual Meeting in Glasgow, UK.
