Christina Dalbøge, PhD, University Hospital of Region Zealand, Slagelse, Denmark, discusses the potential role of the gut microbiome in myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) biology, highlighting that patients with MPNs have a lower relative abundance of beneficial taxa that produce anti-inflammatory metabolites such as butyrate. Dr Dalbøge explains that a leaky gut due to low butyrate production may lead to increased inflammation, potentially exacerbating MPN symptoms, although the exact relationship between MPN and the gut microbiota remains unclear. This interview took place at the 31st Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA) in Stockholm, Sweden.
