ESH CLL 2022 | How BCR signaling influences cell proliferation in CLL

In this video, Dimitar Efremov, MD, PhD, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Trieste, Italy, shares some insights on how B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling influences cell proliferation in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Dr Efremov first explains that although in-vitro stimulation of the BCR does not induce CLL cell proliferation, genetic lesions in the BCR and treating patients with BCR inhibitors such as ibrutinib inhibits the proliferation of CLL cells. Dr Efremov then discusses how other co-stimulatory signals from the microenvironment are required along with BCR signals for CLL cell proliferation to occur. This interview took place during the 2nd ESH Translational Research Conference on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (ESH CLL), 2022.
