Hermann Einsele, MD, FRCP, of the University of Würzburg, Würzburg, Germany, and Heinz Ludwig, MD, of the Wilhelminen Cancer Research Institute, Wilhelminenspital, Vienna, Austria, discuss the recipients of the three awards given during the 18th International Myeloma Workshop (IMW) meeting. Prof. Einsele discusses the work of Dr Vincent Rajkumar, MD, of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, who has been looking into the treatment of myeloma in both developed and developing countries. He further talks on the work of Dr Saad Usmani, MD, of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, NC, regarding novel therapeutic approaches, as well as the research from Dr Paola Neri, MD, PhD, of the University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada, into experimental techniques to better understand treatment resistance in myeloma. This interview took place during the IMW 2021 congress.
