Phase II OPTI-AML trial: optimal dose of VEN in ND AML therapy

Uma Borate, MD, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, presents results from the randomized Phase II OPTI-AML trial (NCT030139980) comparing 28 versus 14 days of venetoclax during the first two cycles of azacitidine-based therapy in patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (ND AML) aged 60 years and older. Dr Borate explains that the 14-day schedule did not meet the prespecified non-inferiority criteria for complete remission, although toxicity was similar between arms and patients without NPM1 or IDH2 mutations had comparable responses with either schedule. This presentation took place at the 8th International Workshop on Acute Leukemias (iwAL) in Cambridge, MA.
