COMy 2023 | Managing COVID-19 risks and exposures in patients with myeloma

Heinz Ludwig, MD, Wilhelminen Cancer Research Institute, Wilhelminenspital, Vienna, Austria, discusses management strategies for COVID-19 in patients with multiple myeloma. Prof. Ludwig highlights vaccination with three baseline doses and subsequent boosters as a key strategy to prevent future COVID-19 infections, but notes that the ideal interval between boosters has not yet been defined. Prof. Ludwig further discusses prophylactic agents which can be used in patients who have been directly exposed to COVID-19, and concludes by noting that monoclonal antibody treatments have also been developed, although these are currently not suitable to protect against the Omicron variant. This interview took place at the 9th World Congress on Controversies in Multiple Myeloma (COMy) 2023, held in Paris, France.
