ASH 2023 | Improving care in adult patients with leukemia at high-risk of CV adverse events

Ahsan Ayaz, MD, Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall, Newburgh, NY, outlines the groups of patients with leukemia who are at greater risk of cardiovascular (CV) mortality, and comments on measures which should be taken to improve patient care in this population. Dr Ayaz highlights a need for clinical trials and cardio-oncology fellowship programs, to increase knowledge of CV disease management in patients with leukemia and to disseminate that knowledge to physicians in order to influence clinical practice. There is also a possibility that machine learning and artificial intelligence may improve prognosis and stratification of these patients. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
