Novel targets in AML and their implications for clinical practice

Sanam Loghavi, MD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, gives a presentation on novel targets in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and practical strategies for identifying them in the clinic. Dr Loghavi outlines the clinical-grade assays used to detect targetable genetic subtypes, including NPM1-mutated, NUP98-rearranged and KMT2A-rearranged AML. She also highlights that UBTF tandem duplications are often missed by most clinical-grade assays and discusses the importance of determining allelic state in TP53-mutated AML. This presentation took place at the 8th International Workshop on Acute Leukemias (iwAL) in Cambridge, MA.
