ASH 2020 | The importance of diversity to the success of clinical research

Ruben Mesa, MD, UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, San Antonio, TX, discusses his thoughts on the importance of racial diversity in clinical research. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted issues of disparity through the disproportionate death of Latino and African American patients, reflective of problems with access and care. He shares some of the initiatives he is involved in that are working towards improving representation in clinical trials, crucial to gaining a true understanding of the efficacy and safety of novel treatments. This interview took place during the 62nd American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition, 2020.
