AACR 2024 | Access to CAR-T in minority patients with lymphoma in the US: a retrospective analysis

Marco Ruella, MD, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, discusses a retrospective analysis that assessed the access of minority health populations (MHPs) to CAR T-cell therapy in two specialized tertiary care centers in the United States (the Abramson Cancer Center, Pennsylvania and the Knight Cancer Institute, Oregon). The findings indicated that the proportion of MHP patients treated for large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) was equal to the proportion of MHP individuals living in the catchment area of the centers. However, this proportion dropped markedly when looking at the patients who received CAR-T, suggesting that barriers to accessing this immunotherapy exist in MHPs and should be addressed. This interview took place at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2024 in San Diego, CA.
