ASCAT 2023 | Developing a test for sickle cell disease

Vivien Sheehan, MD, PhD, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University, Atlanta, GA, describes how prior work into determining biomarkers for sickle cell disease (SCD) will guide future work, and how the use of single-cell RNA sequencing will allow for proteins upregulated in plasma of SCD patients to be determined. Once a biomarker is validated, development of a rapid-form test will allow for prompt diagnosis of the disease. This interview was recorded at the 18th Annual Scientific Conference on Sickle Cell and Thalassemia (ASCAT) 2023.
