Vivien Sheehan, MD, PhD, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University, Atlanta, GA, shares some insights into the difficulty encountered in the past when trying to determine molecular and biophysical biomarkers in sickle cell disease (SCD), and emphasizes the necessity of using an unbiased and collaborative transcriptomics-based approach to increase confidence in the proposed biomarkers associated with the disease.
