Stefano Rivella, PhD, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, shares the results of a study exploring the role of TNFα in the development of anemia and inflammation in a TNFα knockout (KO) mouse model of anemia and inflammation. The study reported that TNFα-KO mice eventually died, which suggests that TNFα has both an inflammatory and regulatory role. It is thus important to further clarify the role of TNFα to develop better and safer anti-TNFα therapies to treat autoimmune disorders. This interview took place at the 64th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition congress in New Orleans, LA.
