MDS 2021 | The importance of using respectful language in oncology

Laura Zitella, MS, RN, ACNP-BC, AOCN, University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Health, San Francisco, CA, talks on the importance of establishing a culture of respect in oncology by using respectful language. Ms. Zitella emphasizes the importance of referring to female medical professionals by their full title as a sign of respect. In addition, Ms. Zitella comments on some of the words used to describe patients in medical records and explains that it is necessary to make changes to convey more respect to patients. This interview took place at the 16th International Congress on Myelodysplastic Syndromes, held virtually in 2021.
