Dietger Niederwieser, MD, University of Leipzig, Leipzig, Germany, gives an overview of stem cell transplantation (SCT) activities around the world. Prof. Niederwieser explains that over the past decade, there has been a significant increase in the number of transplants performed, with a particular increase in haploidentical SCT. In addition, Prof. Niederwieser notes that although the number of transplants has increased in low and middle-income countries, it is still necessary to improve access to this procedure. This interview took place at the 2023 Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Meetings of ASTCT™ and CIBMTR® held in Orlando, FL.
