Dietger Niederwieser, MD, University of Leipzig, Leipzig, Germany, comments on Help for Ukrainian Hematology Patients (HUP), a global initiative designed to support stem cell transplantation (SCT) during the war in Ukraine. This initiative has helped compiling a list of essential drugs that were not available in Ukraine, as well as a list of patients requiring SCT. In addition, the HUP provides daily support to help physicians manage patients undergoing SCT in Ukraine. Prof. Niederwieser explains that the efforts of the HUP task force have helped Ukrainian hospitals to continue SCT during a time of war. This interview took place at the 2023 Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Meetings of ASTCT™ and CIBMTR® held in Orlando, FL.
