IMW 2021 | Insights on genomic techniques in myeloma

Mark Bustoros, MD, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, NY, discusses genomic techniques used in the multiple myeloma field. Targeted panels for myeloma, which include only myeloma-specific mutations, have been implemented in various medical centers. Whole-genome sequencing is mainly used for research purposes and can detect more alterations, therefore, providing more information, but it’s not implemented yet in clinical care. Dr Bustoros highlights that in the future, myeloma classification will be molecularly rather than clinically. This interview took place during the 18th International Myeloma Workshop (IMW 2021) congress.
