IMS 2023 | Developments in assessing frailty in patients with multiple myeloma

In this video, Gordon Cook, MB ChB, PhD, FRCP(Glas), FRCPath, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds, UK, discusses the categorization of patients with multiple myeloma as fit, unfit, or frail using the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) frailty index. Prof. Cook explains how treatment can be tailored based on these categories, but also highlights the limitations of these types of assessments. Prof. Cook also discusses a sub-study of the Myeloma XIV (FiTNEss) trial (NCT03720041) that is using trackers to measure patients’ physical activity to improve delineation of patient fitness, and concludes by discussing the dynamic nature of patient frailty. This interview took place at the 20th International Myeloma Society (IMS) Annual Meeting, held in Athens, Greece.
