Managing FLT3-ITD mutant AML in remission

Eunice Wang, MD, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY, presents evidence for FLT3 inhibitor therapy in patients with FLT3-ITD-mutated acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in remission, mentioning data from the RATIFY (NCT00651261), QuANTUM-First (NCT02668653), and GOSSAMER (NCT02927262) trials. Dr Wang explains that the benefit of FLT3 inhibition depends on the agent, measurable residual disease (MRD) status, and transplant status. She highlights the benefit of quizartinib maintenance therapy in both MRD-positive and MRD-negative patients, and of sorafenib or gilteritinib following allogeneic stem-cell transplantation (alloSCT) in MRD-positive patients. This presentation took place at the 8th International Workshop on Acute Leukemias (iwAL) in Cambridge, MA.
