Eunice Wang, MD, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY, discusses lessons learned about differentiation syndrome (DS) from the Phase I/II KOMET-001 trial (NCT04067336) that investigated ziftomenib in patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Dr Wang explains that DS was more frequent and severe in patients with KMT2A-rearranged AML than in those with NPM1-mutated disease, noting that protocol-mandated mitigation strategies have reduced DS severity and that combining them with cytotoxic therapy may further control it. This presentation took place at the 8th International Workshop on Acute Leukemias (iwAL) in Cambridge, MA.
