iwCLL 2023 | Facilitating diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma in children in Uganda and Tanzania

In this interview, Anna Schuh, MD, PhD, University of Oxford, Oxford, UK, gives details of the program she initiated in Tanzania and Uganda in which assays were developed, utilizing next-generation sequencing of circulating tumour DNA, to provide diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma in children in as quickly as six days. Unlike biopsies, this method of diagnosis is possible without the need for surgeons or pathologists and can be performed in rural areas, mitigating the need for children to travel to a cancer centre in the capital. This interview took place at the biennial International Workshop on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (iwCLL) 2023 meeting, held in Boston, MA.
