Abdullah Kutlar, MD, Augusta University, Augusta, GA, highlights access to treatment as a major problem in sickle cell disease (SCD) management. Access to care is poor in many parts of the world, resulting in disjointed management, a greater need for acute care, and early mortality. Prof. Kutlar discusses efforts to expand access and improve outcomes including The ASH Research Collaborative Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Trials Network, which aims to streamline trial conduction and facilitate data sharing to expedite the development of new treatment options. This interview took place at the 63rd ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition congress in Atlanta, GA.
