SOHO 2026 | Balancing efficacy and toxicity risks when combining BTK and BCL2 inhibitors in patients with MCL

Yucai Wang, MD, PhD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, comments on balancing the efficacy benefits of combining BTK inhibitors with BCL2 inhibitors against increased toxicity risks in patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). Dr Wang highlights promising efficacy data from the SYMPATICO trial (NCT03112174), noting that combining these agents may improve progression-free survival but also likely increases the risk of cytopenia and infection, requiring closer patient monitoring. This interview took place at the 14th Annual Meeting of the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO 2026) in Houston, TX.
