Nicola Giuliani, MD, PhD, University of Parma, Parma, Italy, discusses the impact of impaired glutamine/glutamate metabolism on osteoclast formation and bone destruction, commenting on in vitro data showing that high levels of glutamate in the bone microenvironment stimulate osteoclast signaling and subsequent osteoclast activation. This interview took place at the 19th International Myeloma Society Meeting (IMS) held in Los Angeles, CA.
