Clinical research is experiencing an exponential growth in the administrative burden, paperwork and regulation associated with clinical trials, despite the laws surrounding this research not significantly changing since 2001. Here, Simon Rule, MD, Plymouth University, Plymouth, UK, discusses the affect that increasing bureaucracy is having and the ways in which he is hoping to address this issue.
