IMS 2023 | How do multiple myeloma cells evade immune surveillance?

Madhav Dhodapkar, MBBS, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, discusses mechanisms of immune evasion in multiple myeloma. Changes in the gut microbiome can increase the rate of inflammation and cell dysfunction, especially in the tumor, influencing the efficacy of the immune response. Tumors can additionally prevent immune cells from being in the vicinity and CAR-T cells and bispecific antibodies under development can recruit immune cells. This interview took place at the 20th International Myeloma Society (IMS) Annual Meeting, held in Athens, Greece.
