iwHRMM 2024 | The importance of imaging in patients with myeloma with extramedullary disease

Elena Zamagni, MD, PhD, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy, discusses the essential role of imaging in diagnosing and managing patients with multiple myeloma (MM) with extramedullary disease (EMD). Imaging is crucial not only for diagnosis but also for assessing therapeutic response, as bone marrow laboratory results alone may not suffice. Current efforts aim to revise response criteria, focusing more on functional imaging over lesion size to provide a more accurate measure of treatment success. This discussion took place at the 1st International Workshop on High-Risk Multiple Myeloma (iwHRMM 2024), held in Charleston, SC.
