The 2022 Tandem Meetings | Peripheral blood vs bone marrow stem cells for alloHSCT & optimal CD34+ graft cell dose

Muhammad Umair Mushtaq, MD, University of Kansas Medical Center, Westwood, KS, compares the different cell sources for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT), and discusses the optimal CD34+ graft cell dose. Dr Ushtaq explains that it is possible to control the amount of CD34+ cells collected from the peripheral blood but not from the bone marrow. In a recent meta-analysis, it was shown that the ideal CD34+ graft cell dose is between 4-6×10⁶/kg, but it is necessary to perform a registry study to better define this value. This interview took place at the Transplantation & Cellular Therapy (TCT) Meetings of ASTCT™ and CIBMTR® 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
