Tandem Meetings 2023 | Outcomes of HLA-matched unrelated donor versus haploidentical transplantation

Muhammad Umair Mushtaq, MD, University of Kansas Medical Center, Westwood, KS, shares the results of a single-center retrospective study comparing the outcomes of 452 patients who underwent HLA-matched unrelated donor (MUD) and haploidentical hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Overall, the study reported similar outcomes in terms of overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), relapse, non-relapse mortality (NRM), graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), and neutrophil engraftment between the two cohorts. A one-week delay in platelet engraftment was reported in haploidentical transplants. This interview took place at the 2023 Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Meetings of ASTCT™ and CIBMTR® held in Orlando, FL.
