EHA 2023 | The etiology of erythropoietic protoporphyria

William Savage, MD, PhD, Disc Medicine, Watertown, MA, briefly comments on the etiology of erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), explaining that this disease is caused by a mutation in ferrochelatase, causing accumulation of protoporphyrins in red blood cells that result in extreme photosensitivity. This interview took place at the 28th Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA) 2023 in Frankfurt, Germany.
