iwMPN 2026 | Approaching the selection between rusfertide and interferons when treating PV: advice for clinicians

Abdulraheem Yacoub, MD, University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS, discusses the role of rusfertide in the treatment of polycythemia vera (PV) and how clinicians should approach the selection between rusfertide and interferons. Dr Yacoub notes that rusfertide will not replace standard treatments for high-risk patients, but can be used with interferon or as an alternative for low-risk patients managed with phlebotomy alone. This interview took place at the 4th International Workshop on Myelodysplastic Syndromes & Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (iwMDS/iwMPN) 2026, held in Washington, D.C.
