Academic History

Umberto Vitolo, MD, is a consultant hematologist and head of hematology clinical trials at the Candiolo Cancer Institute, FPO-IRCCS, Turin, Italy. He is also the founder of the Italian Lymphoma Foundation.

Prof. Vitolo received his MD from the University of Turin, Turin, Italy, specialized in hematology in Italy, and subsequently completed his fellowship in hemato-oncology at the Cancer Research Center at the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL. Prof. Vitolo has held several academic and clinical leadership positions throughout his career, including working as head of Lymphoma Chemoimmunotherapy Unit and director of Hospital Hematology at Molinette Hospital in Turin, Italy.

Prof. Vitolo is a member of the Italian Society of Hematology, the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the European Hematology Association (EHA) and Academy of Medicine of Turin. He is also involved in the drafting of the EIS, ESMO and EHA lymphoma guidelines.

Prof. Vitolo is a specialist in lymphoid malignancies, internationally recognized for his expertise in B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas, including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), follicular lymphoma (FL), and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). He has a particular focus on improving treatment strategies through clinical research and the evaluation of novel therapeutic approaches.

Prof. Vitolo has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading hematology and oncology journals and has participated in multiple clinical trials investigating targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and novel combinations for B-cell lymphomas.
