IMS 2026 | APRIL depletion and loss of durable antibody-mediated immunity in multiple myeloma

Noé Perron, PhD, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, discusses how tumor burden-dependent depletion of a proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL) may contribute to the loss of durable antibody-mediated immunity in patients with multiple myeloma and precursor conditions. He highlights findings showing declining vaccine-induced antibody titers and reduced immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella, and explores the potential clinical implications for infection risk, vaccination strategies, antibody monitoring, and therapies targeting APRIL-related pathways. This interview took place at the 23rd International Myeloma Society (IMS) Annual Meeting in Glasgow, UK.
