IMS 2026 | The potential role of CTCs as an independent prognostic factor in multiple myeloma

Pieter Sonneveld, MD, PhD, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, Netherlands, discusses the potential of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a prognostic factor in multiple myeloma, highlighting that high CTC levels are an unfavorable prognostic factor and an independent predictor of outcome in multivariate analysis. Dr Sonneveld notes that CTC analysis using next-generation flow is a practical tool that can provide rapid results, making it a useful aid for clinicians to identify high-risk patients who may benefit from intensified therapy. This interview took place at the 23rd International Myeloma Society (IMS) Annual Meeting in Glasgow, UK.
