ASCO 2026 | Mechanistic insights into purinostat mesylate for treating hematologic malignancies

Lijuan Chen, MD, PhD, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China, shares insights into the mechanisms of purinostat mesylate (PM), an HDAC inhibitor targeting HDAC1 and 2B, and its potential when combined with pomalidomide. Dr Chen highlights that the high selectivity of PM is crucial to avoiding toxicity, and that its mechanism of action is distinct from that of pan-HDAC inhibitors, such as panobinostat, which have been withdrawn from the market due to their severe toxicity. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
