COMy 2026 | Updated IMWG myeloma response criteria: insights and practical challenges

Heinz Ludwig, MD, Wilhelminen Cancer Research Institute, Vienna, Austria, shares insights into the updated International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) response criteria, noting that while they clarify response definitions, practical challenges remain unresolved. Prof. Ludwig highlights that the introduction of composite measurable residual disease (MRD) negativity and the requirement for serological assessment after each cycle may introduce feasibility challenges, and notes the remaining requirement for 24-hour urine testing. This interview took place at the 12th World Congress on Controversies in Multiple Myeloma (COMy) in Paris, France.
