Marios Papadimitriou, MD, University of Miami, Miami, FL, discusses the genomic and transcriptomic landscape of hyper-APOBEC multiple myeloma. Dr Papadimitriou reports on differential gene expression between three patient groups: hyper-APOBEC with MAF translocation, hyper-APOBEC without MAF translocation, and non-hyper-APOBEC without MAF translocation. Dr Papadimitriou then describes how disturbances in the pathways regulating the DREAM complex can lead to over-expression of APOBEC3B, and discusses the identification of genes correlated with APOBEC3B. This interview took place at the 20th International Myeloma Society (IMS) Annual Meeting, held in Athens, Greece.
