ERIC CLL 2026 | FLAIR insights: MRD-guided treatment duration in CLL and barriers to routine NHS adoption

Talha Munir, MBBS, MRCP, FRCPath, PhD, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds, UK, discusses the findings of the FLAIR trial (ISRCTN01844152), which investigated the use of measurable residual disease (MRD)-guided treatment duration in a Phase III setting in standard-risk patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) with unmutated IGHV status. Dr Munir notes that while the MRD-guided approach has shown clinical effectiveness, routine NHS adoption is pending as it must demonstrate cost-effectiveness. This interview took place at the 2026 ERIC International Meeting in Barcelona, Spain.
